WMTP: Forging an Industrial Highland with Academic Collaboration
To further enhance the core competitiveness of Wenzhou's characteristic industrial clusters and advance the development of industrial foundations, the 2026 Zhejiang (Wenzhou) Metal Materials & Thermal Processing Fair will be held at Wenzhou International Convention and Exhibition Center from October 9 to 11, 2026.
On December 29, the Organizing Committee of 2026 Zhejiang (Wenzhou) Metal Materials & Thermal Processing Fair (referred as WMTP) convened a preparatory meeting at the office of the Wenzhou Pump & Valve Industry Association.
In attendance were Chen Xizhang, Chairman of the Wenzhou Society for Metals Materials, Wang Yun, Secretary-General of the Wenzhou Society for Metals Materials, Liu Kun, Deputy Director of the Industrial Development Department of Wenzhou Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology, Li Pige, Secretary-General of the Wenzhou Pump & Valve Industry Association and General Manager of Donnor Meta Exhibition (Wenzhou) Co., Ltd., as well as other members of the Organizing Committee.
All participants conducted in-depth and fruitful discussions centering on deepening the industry-academia-research-exhibition collaboration, and building a branded, professional industry exhibition driven by core materials science disciplines. Extensive consensus was reached at the meeting.
Industry serves as the backbone and cornerstone of Wenzhou’s economic development. In the inaugural year of Wenzhou’s 15th Five-Year Plan, industrial development has been entrusted with the core mission of defining the city’s future standing.
Chen Xizhang, Chairman of the Wenzhou Society for Metals Materials, pointed out that while Wenzhou boasts five traditional advantageous industries, its critical upstream sector—the discipline of metals materials—remains an untapped frontier, which poses fundamental challenges to industrial upgrading.
Against this backdrop, hosting the WMTP is far more than building a business and trade platform. Its deeper significance lies in forging a strategic pivot that links technological innovation with industrial application, aiming to integrate the entire “R&D-materials-manufacturing” chain and fundamentally elevate the foundational quality and competitiveness of Wenzhou’s industry.
This edition of the exhibition will break free from the confines of traditional equipment displays, with "focusing on the discipline of metals materials itself" as its core feature and differentiated advantage.
Through in-depth collaboration with the Wenzhou Society for Metals Materials, the exhibition will be guided by scientific topics such as materials R&D, process optimization, and failure analysis. It will steer local enterprises to extend their focus from the application end to the R&D end, engage in direct dialogue with materials science, fundamentally resolve the "bottleneck" problems hindering product upgrading, and inject original technological impetus into industries including pump & valve, auto and motorcycle parts, and high-end equipment manufacturing.
The exhibition is further committed to building an intellectual engine for industrial upgrading. Chen Xizhang, Chairman of the Wenzhou Society for Metals Materials, pointed out that establishing an industry-academia-research collaboration platform is crucial to enterprise development.
To this end, the exhibition will join hands with authoritative institutions to carefully organize a series of high-end forums, and specially invite renowned industry experts from home and abroad to form a strong think tank for in-depth participation. This initiative aims to elevate the authoritative connotation of the exhibition through high-standard conferences, and promote substantive integration of the industry via high-quality exhibitions, thereby significantly enhancing the resilience, security and added value of the regional industrial chain.
Taking this meeting as its starting point, the WMTP Organizing Committee will engage in close collaboration and meticulous planning to ensure the resounding success of the exhibition. It will build a solid platform for the high-quality development of Wenzhou’s manufacturing industry and jointly forge a new highland for industrial development.
