Chinese producer Maanshan Iron and Steel (Masteel) has awarded Primetals Technologies the contract for the engineering, supply, and startup of a bow-type 2-strand continuous caster.

The scope of the contract also includes Level 1 and Level 2 automation systems, as well as supervision services for the startup.

The slab caster CC No.4 will have an annual capacity of 2.37Mt and be installed in Maanshan City, Anhui province.

Primetals outlined that the new caster’s advanced automation and other technologies will enable Masteel to meet the requirements for producing slabs with superior internal quality, which is essential for demanding steel grades.

The slabs produced will have dimensions between 230 and 250mm in thickness and 950 and 1600mm in width.

Masteel is part of the Baowu Steel Group Corporation. Baowu already operates more than 20 casters supplied by Primetals Technologies, with the partnership starting in the 1990s.

Startup is planned for the second half of 2026.
