Stegra’s Boden Plant Project Receives EU Recognition

Stegra’s green steel plant, currently under construction in Boden, has been recognised by the EU as a strategically important project for reaching its climate goals.
This comes after the plant had been recognised as a Strategic Net-Zero Project by Tillväxtverket, the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth.
Niklas Wass, head of Boden operations, Stegra, said: “The recognition as a Strategic Net-Zero Project confirms Stegra’s importance to Europe’s industrial resilience. It reflects the long-term commitment from both Sweden and the EU to projects that strengthen Europe’s strategic value chains.”
In reaching its decision, Tillväxtverket found that the project will meaningfully cut CO₂ emissions from industrial processes over the long term, helping to reduce Europe’s reliance on imported raw materials and supporting the phasing out of fossil fuels in steel production.
