Danieli Completes Billet Caster Upgrade at JSW Salem
Danieli has completed the revamp of a billet caster at JSW Salem, India.
The project saw the replacement of the previous equipment with a Danieli three-strand billet caster.
As a result of the project, all three continuous casters now operating at the site were supplied by Danieli.
The revamp upgraded the nominal 9m-radius caster with a 1,300mm strand distance.
Danieli’s scope also included new moulds for the production of 160mm and 200mm square sections, oscillators, Danieli Roltelec mould and final stirrers, roller tables and a walking-beam cooling bed.
The installation also integrates Danieli casting technologies, such as advanced mould stirring and final electromagnetic stirring systems, together with upgraded mechanical equipment throughout the casting and discharge areas.
Danieli highlighted that the new configuration supports improved operational reliability, production stability, and product quality performance.
Following completion of the project, the caster successfully resumed production and reached target production within one week of startup.
