voestalpine has doubled its production capacity at its Jeffersonville site in Indiana, with the opening of a facility producing longitudinal beams.

The facility required an investment of $80m and has taken capacity to 80kt.

Herbert Eibensteiner, CEO of voestalpine, said: “With the new production facility in Indiana, USA, we are strengthening our position in a strategically important market and consistently continuing our successful local-for-local strategy.

“Investments in attractive regions and demanding areas of processing are a key part of our growth strategy and ensure our proximity to international customers.”

The beams produced at the facility will be used on class 6, 7, and 8 trucks, with the components used in tractor units of semi-trailer trucks.

Furthermore, this expansion will create 110 new roles when the production line reaches full capacity in the second half of 2027.

Carola Richter, head of metal forming division, added: “High customer demand confirms our strategic approach of combining our global expertise in the production of complex special profiles for the commercial vehicle industry with a strong local presence and offering innovative products of the highest quality directly on site.

“This will also strengthen the basis for further growth in North and South America.”
