Canada has launched a C$100m rebate program for the interprovincial transportation of eligible steel products by rail and marine.

The Commodities Sectoral Support Program will rebate 50% of eligible rail or marine transportation costs for Canadian steel moving between provinces and territories.

The program will last a year or until the funds are completely used.

Hon. Steven MacKinnon, Minister of Transport and Leader of the Government in the House of Commons, said: “Global trade is changing quickly, and Canada must adapt. Canadians are looking for more opportunities to buy Canadian products, including Canadian steel.

“Through this rebate, we’re helping businesses strengthen their presence in the domestic market.”

The program is intended to support the government’s work to reinforce Canadian supply chains and build a more resilient economy.
