VSB to Install Solar Plant at Thyssenkrupp Rasselstein

VSB Group will install an 8MWp, 5.2-hectare solar plant on the site of thyssenkrupp Rasselstein, in Germany.
With 12,000 solar modules planned, the system is expected to generate eight gigawatt-hours of renewable electricity per year.
Frederic Wagner, managing director of VSB Integrated Energy Solutions, said: “With the project in Andernach, thyssenkrupp Rasselstein is demonstrating the potential of renewable energy directly at an industrial site.
“As the implementation partner, we are taking responsibility for planning, financing, construction and operation, creating a reliable solution with long-term planning certainty.”
The electricity generated will be used entirely on site and will cover part of thyssenkrupp Rasselstein’s future demand.
The on-site power purchase agreement (PPA) will initially run for 20 years.
Based in the district of Mayen-Koblenz, thyssenkrupp Rasselstein is the world’s largest production site for packaging steel.
CO₂-reduced Bluemint Steel from thyssenkrupp with ZM EcoProtect Solar coating will be used for the steel substructure.
Dr Thorsten Krenke, CTO at thyssenkrupp Rasselstein, added: “Our aim was to cover part of our green electricity requirements locally. The result is the construction of an on-site PV system that shows this is also possible in an established industrial environment.”
Construction on the solar plant is expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2026.
